1973-ൽ ഗ്ലാസിയർ ബ്രിസ്റ്റോൾ സർവകലാശാലയിൽ നിന്ന് ബിഎസ്‌സി ബിരുദം നേടി. തുടർന്ന് 1976-ൽ എഡിൻബർഗ് സർവകലാശാലയിൽ എംബിസിഎച്ച്ബി ബിരുദം നേടി. അലൻ ടെമ്പിൾടണിന്റെ മേൽനോട്ടത്തിൽ അവർ പ്രസവചികിത്സയിലും ഗൈനക്കോളജിയിലും സ്പെഷ്യലൈസ് ചെയ്തു. അവർ 1983-ൽ എം.ഡി പാസായി, ഡോക്ടറായി യോഗ്യത നേടി. മുലയൂട്ടൽ വന്ധ്യതയ്ക്ക് ആസ്‌പദമായ ഹോർമോൺ സംവിധാനങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചായിരുന്നു അവരുടെ പ്രബന്ധം.[2]
